I think our class can breathe a collective sigh of relief because if the small portion of Blink we've read is any indication (and if the Thin Slices theory is to be believed then it is) then the book is much better than The Tipping Point. It seems so far both to cover a more interesting topic and to be better-written. The descriptions are still a little drawn-out like in Tipping Point but he seems much better in this at getting to the point. That point, in the intro and first chapter, is probably that from experience, we can tell whether something looks "right" or "wrong" just by taking a glance at it. He mentions that in different fields when this sense is particularly developed it has different names: in basketball, it's "court sense" and in the military it's "coup d'oeil" ("the power of a glance", but I think it literally means "the blow of the eye," which sounds pretty strange in English).
So far so good.
